Taking a placement year puts me in an odd place as it is approaching the point where most of my friends are graduating their standard three year degrees.
Of course it isn’t all of my friends, as we all take different paths. Some friends left college and got into work and I have seen them get promoted, rent flats, move in with boyfriends, and one even has a mortgage now! However, this only adds to the current feeling of everyone else moving on with their lives and moving further away from education days.
This year working has been amazing, but I can’t help but feel that returning to university this September is a bit of a step backwards, watching everybody else go off into their adult lives. The excitement of going off and becoming my own person is really building, especially as I get closer to being torn away from my lovely office desk and unlimited coffee supply.
There are lots of people still around though, moving onto masters, PhDs, or even a few of my uni friends who took a year out themselves. So I am excited to continue enjoying the next two years with them, taking some tips from my graduated friends along the way.
